Adder
Any of several non venomous snakes, such as the milk snake of North America, popularly believed to be harmful.

          Asmodeusss- had Martin’s sword. Matthias went to retrieve it and was chased by Asmodeusss. Matthias used the sword to cut of Asmoduesss’ head, in which case Asmodeusss died.   

Badger
Any of several carnivorous burrowing mammals of the family Mustelidae, having short legs, long claws on the front feet, and a heavy grizzled coat.
    Constance- is a great asset to this book and has great fighting ability and she cares about the Abbey dearly. At one stage fired an arrow thinking she got Cluny, but later realized it was one of Cluny’s rats instead. Retrieved and returned the tapestry to the right place, Redwall.

Birds
Any of the class Aves of warm-blooded, egg-laying, feathered vertebrates with forelimbs modified to form wings.

Cats
A small carnivorous mammal.
    Squire Julian Gingervive- is an important character as he helps Matthias find the owl leading him to the sword and tells him the facts, purpose, of the sword
. 

Churchmice
A poor mice family living in the same place that their ancestors, the Church.
    John Churchmouse- husband to Mrs Churchmouse and father of Tim and Tess. Use to live at St. Ninian’s Church, moved to Redwall Abbey during Cluny’s attacks. Later became Redwall Recorder.

Ferret
A weasel like, usually albino mammal.

Field mouse
Any of various small mice or voles.
    Cornflower- a young, pretty mouse attracted to Matthias and soon married Matthias and mother to his child.

Fox
Any of various carnivorous mammals.
     Sela- a healer who is only interested in her well being. Killed by Cluny’s rats after she was found listening to their attack.
    Chickenhound- was son to Sela and stabbed by Cluny’s rats also but survived and went to Redwall to find help but only to doublecross them and killed Brother Methuselah.

Hare
Similar to rabbits but having longer ears and legs and giving birth to active, furred young.
    Basil Stag Hare-  who idolizes stags. Has a huge appetite and friends with Matthias and fellow Redwall residents.
 

Hedgehog
Any of several spiny animals, such as the porcupine, that are similar to the hedgehog.
    Ambrose Spike- cellar keeper of Redwall and also knows magic tricks.

Moles
Usually living underground and having thickset bodies with light brown to dark gray silky fur, rudimentary eyes, tough muzzles, and strong forefeet for burrowing.

Mouse
Any of numerous small rodents of the families Muridae and Cricetidae, characteristically having a pointed snout, small rounded ears, and a long naked or almost hairless tail.
    Hugo, Friar- Fat mouse. Head cook of Redwall.
    Martin the Warrior- a young deceased warrior mouse who inspires Matthias and most of the residents at Redwall.


    Matthias, aka  ‘Am that is’- A young mouse following in the paw steps of Martin. Matthias is today a father to Matthias Methuselah Mortimer amd husband to Cornflower. Retrieved Martin’s sword and now the new Redwall warrior.


    Mattimeo- Son of Matthias and Cornflower. Full name is Matthias Methuselah Mortimer.

     Methuselah- an old but dear mouse of Redwall, recorder of Redwall. Died after trying to stop Chickenhound escaping when the young fox was discovered stealing.
    Mordalfus, Abbot- Prefers to be known as Alf. A skilled fishermouse and former pondkeeper of Redwall. Now Abbot of Redwall.
    Mortimer, Abbot- was Abbot of Redwall. Struck by Cluny’s spike tail when he refused to beg for his life and later died due to the poison. He gave a very heart-felt goodbye at the end before beginning his ‘journey.’

Owl
Any of various often nocturnal birds of prey of the order Strigiformes, having hooked and feathered talons, large heads with short hooked beaks, large eyes set forward, and fluffy plumage that allows for almost noiseless flight.
    Snow, Captain- Large white owl. Once got his life saved by Basil Stag Hare. Feuded with Julian for years, but ultimately made peace.

Rat
Any of various long-tailed rodents resembling mice but larger.
    Cluny the Scourge- a mean, devious rat who would do anything to claim Redwall. Has recurring nightmares with Martin the Warrior in it. Killed by Matthias after Matthias dropped the Joseph Bell on him during a one on one fight.


    Cheesethief- killed Scragg when Cluny kept favouring Scragg over him. Killed by Constance.
    Fangburn- one of Cluny’s rat captains. Killed by Constance during the last fight.
    Three-leg, Snatch- died when the cart tipped on them.
    Redtooth- after a brutal fight, Constance threw him and he hit a stout sycamore tree metres away.
    Shadow- an all black rat that captured the tapestry of Martin for Cluny and left to die after a fall.

Shrew
Any of various small, chiefly insectivorous mammals of the family Soricidae, resembling a mouse but having a long pointed snout and small eyes and ears.

Sparrow hawk
A small hawk of Europe, Africa, and central Asia that has short, broad wings and preys on sparrows and other small birds.


     Dunwing- Warbeaks widowed mother who tells Matthias the swords whereabouts.
    Warbeak- gets shot in the leg a while attacking Jess Squirrel when she was climbing down. Was hostage to Matthias and a great pain. Soon proved a great help to Redwall. The new Queen Sparrow.
    Bull Sparra - use to be the King of the Sparrows. He has a very pig-headed attitude and needs his sister, Dunwing to look after him.

Squirrel
Any of various arboreal rodents of the genus Sciurus and related genera of the family Sciuridae, having a long flexible bushy tail.
    Silent Sam- a great path-finder and a cute squirrel who hasn’t spoken since birth. Until a year later in the Summer while he is explaining the events to young Mattimeo.


    Mrs Jess Squirrel- attempts to retrieve Martin’s sword from the roof but wasn’t the real one. Gets attacked by sparrows while climbing down. She and Basil returned the tapestry to Redwall.

The ermine in its brown summer coat with black-tipped tail.

 Weasel
Any of various carnivorous mammals of the genus Mustela, having a long slender body, a long tail, short legs, and brownish fur that in many species turns white in winter.
    Scragg- killed by Cheesethief when he fell from the tree.
